Today, Mark, Mark Stephen (as I call him, for obvious reasons), and Matt tested for their 2
nd degree black belts with a faith based (in Jesus) martial arts program. My family has been attending this program for four years, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. Everyone really enjoys it.
Although this program provides twice a week fun exercise and training opportunites, it also provides quarterly testing for demonstrating skills and advancement. This is a nerve wrecking time for some, and for others, a hilariously fun time!! While some may think, "I don't like getting out in front of a crowd, and what if I forget my forms?", others think, "No big deal, and who cares?"
Our family has a mix of these two different kinds of people, and so this makes for an interesting week before a test! The LORD knew we needed the balance of one another, for it truly helps us to team up/help/balance/encourage one another!
Katherine took lots of photos today at the test. Not all turned out, but below are the best from her photo journal for the day...

Matthew waiting his turn to test, a long turn.

And finally, they're up....all three together, but Kat could only get two in this shot. Attentiveness and quick memory is very important during this stage of testing!

Obviously, Dad is having fun! The demonstration of techniques and forms is complete!

Preparing to spar...waiting to hear who will spar who...

Anticipation makes some do silly things...

...and the word was, Mark Stephen would spar the Jr. Olympians in the group, all three, two one on one, then finally two at a time, brothers and sister....ha! So much for being silly!
It's time to get serious!!

...

...

Matt sparred three men, poor thing!
They survived!!
Then it was time to break...
Dad has had a sore foot all week (previous week's sparring injury), surely he didn't break one of his four boards with that foot. He did, but with the heel. Oh well, whatever, all four boards broke!
Yea!

Mark Stephen finishing up his breaking demo very quickly...crack, crack, crack, crack, and it was over!!!

He and Meme are faithful to attend these events!

"When it's all said and done", Grand Master/Founder was generously kind with his praise of my precious family! Four years later, he was grateful to say ours is one of two families in 27 years of this ministry that has had four 2
nd degree black belts in one family! Last year, he said, "At 10 1/2, Katherine is the youngest 2nd degree black belt in this ministry of 26 years." Well, I've received word that a younger girl will beat the record next week at the 2nd and final test for this quarter (the ministry is too big to test everyone in one given Saturday, so the schools are divided up for testing). Amazing. It's awesome to see so many, young and old alike, involved in this sport!

...and given their certificates.

Thank you, Nate (3rd degree), for helping Katherine out today by taking some photos when she was unable to. I love your self-portrait!! :~)

As always, Grand Master, bottom right, likes to get a photo of every testing group! My guys are standing together under the exit sign.

Nate's sister, Kendall, took the group photos!
Kendall, thank you!! I can't wait to attend your black belt test!! :~)
Meanwhile, at home today, John recuperated from a stomach virus he came down with yesterday. He was supposed to test for his blue advanced belt today, but sadly, was not ready physically for the endurance test!!
I'm grateful to say he's much improved this evening, and is now able to eat again. He's enjoyed calling 'room service' all day!

Don't overlook Calvin! He's not sick, just plain tuckered out! He and John are bed buddies. He's no dummy, he knows where to go to get good cozy sleep! John looks out for him!

When Mark sought to find an activity or sport for our family to all take part in 4 years ago, he desired something that would unify and build up/strengthen our family, not something that would divide and discourage relationships! I'm grateful he found this program. Grand Master loves the LORD deeply, and has a huge heart for people. He founded this ministry 27 years ago with a desire to give to the community. This ministry has surely given and provided the means to allow students to learn TKD without monthly fees. All the leaders are faithful volunteers!
It's been amazing to see how the ministry has grown in the four short years we've been involved. There are12 schools scattered throughout our city, all of which meet in churches that are willing to to make available their resources/facilities to allow our classes to meet twice a week, at no charge!
Thank you, LORD, for the blessing of this ministry!!

whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."

As for
Tink, she enjoyed my company this afternoon while drafting this post.
Tink loves the warmth of a computer, so knows just where to lay when she's in the mood for some
warm lovin' and
snugglin'.
We've come to the end of a wonderful day at our house...
Good night~
